A scientist by training and by nature, Mark continues to seek simplicity and reliability in learning and change. His PhD research in self-organising systems provides a basis for his work, with influences ranging from systems thinking ands brain research to language, narrative and philosophy. His MBA degree specialised in creative and HR management. He has presented on every continent except Antarctica, and is an international conference keynote presenter.

An accomplished musician, Mark is fascinated by links between music, learning and the brain. He is also a jazz saxophonist (his jazz orchestra UltraSound attracted backing from the Arts Council of England and recorded 2 CDs back in the 1990s), and he acted as Deputy Leader of the SIM-phone-ya Orchestra, the world's first mobile phone ensemble, at the Cheltenham International Festival.
