Who is the Solutions Focus Professional programme aimed at?

The programme is not intended for therapists or medical and social work professionals. There are other training organisations who specialise in solution focused brief therapy training;
What are the structure and time requirements of the Solutions Focus Professional programme?
The programme has a nine step structure:
Step 1: Setting The Scene - with your scene-setter pack containing pre-course questionnaire, details of each module, pre-reading suggestions, resources for books, websites and forums.
Step 2: Solutions Focus tools and principles - the first two-day live training module. A detailed look at our six Solutions Tools and SIMPLE principles, building on your existing knowledge with lively activities, case examples, presentations and practice. Start of project work.
Step 3: Personal Coaching - face-to-face and telephone coaching sessions by you and for you, to keep you focused, motivated and learning throughout the programme. Teleconference check-in.
Step 4: SF Conversations at work - the second two-day live training. Review your coaching progress to date with your tutors and supervisors. Developing flexibility and responsiveness. SF approaches to workplace conversations. Working with groups and teams. Rehearse for forthcoming challenges.
Step 5: Support For Your Own Projects - with teleconference, email forums, and continued coaching to give you expert support in your choice of practical project.
Step 6: Staying SIMPLE - the third two-day live training. This concentrates on advanced skills practice and project reports. The interactional view. Post-structural linguistics - simplicity in practice. SF, Appreciative Inquiry, positive psychology and NLP. Solution Focused Reflecting Teams and SF evaluation.
Step 7: Project completion - you continue to write up your project (around 3000 words) and get feedback from us and your colleagues. This is an excellent learning process.
Step 8: Project completion day (about three months later, date agreed with all participants during the programme) - you assemble with your colleagues for a day of project reviews, follow-on training and looking forward. Certificates awarded. This is always a full and exciting day.
Do you offer a certificate for participation in the Solutions Focus Professional programme?
Participants who join at least 80% of the training days, participate in the coaching activities between Modules 1 and 2, make a project report in module 3 and submit a written project report (1500 - 3500 words) before the project completion day will be awarded a Solutions Focus Professional certificate. This can also be used as the basis for SFCT review, to qualify for full membership of the professional body for SF coaches, consultants and managers.
The Solutions Focus Professional programme is a skill-based program and includes participants from many professional disciplines and backgrounds. The types of professional practices they have, the kind of clients, and the fees they charge may vary widely. If you are interested in full-blown training for establishing a coaching practice you may want to explore a full coach training programme such as one approved by the International Coach Federation.
I am a complete newcomer to SF. Can I join the programme?
Yes. The seven full days of training will thoroughly introduce you to the principles and practices of Solutions Focus, and help you to start applying it in your own work right from the start.
Of course! This programme will give you the tools that apply to your work for a wide variety of situation and clients. A key part of the programme is the project work, where you apply these tools to your own situation with our help. You will also benefit from the shared wisdom and input from other participants in the Solutions Focus Professional programme who are using the material in their professional work.
Solution focused ideas are not copyright and can be used by anyone at any time. You need no permission - but to use them or explain them well you will need skill. You are encouraged to use the ideas and tools you learn in your work settings. In the wider Solutions Focus community we take an 'open source' view of our ideas, in which you are encouraged to share with appropriate attribution (saying where you got them from). In practice, this means you can use phrases like Future Perfect, Scaling Walk, OSKAR, SIMPLE; and we encourage you to do so. The quid pro quo of this is that you are expected to take a similar sharing line with any ideas you may develop which use or build on the SF approach. This is the basis on which the SF community, including the SOL conferences, are founded. The SOL Charter expresses the spirit of the community and we expect you to respect this spirit - see www.solworld.org/index.cfm?id=2. However, the specific materials and detailed activity sequences used on the programme are our intellectual property, and cannot be reused without our agreement. Please contact us if you have any queries about these distinctions.
What is the Solutions SFCT? How can I join it?
SFCT is the professional body for solution-focused coaches, consultants and managers (www.asfct.org). It is open to all interested in SF practice in organisational and management contexts. The UK Chapter is very active, meets three times per year at the moment and has many other activities. These are open to all members. We meet three times a year, with a lead topic for each workshop. Each meeting features fresh discussion and work on an aspect of Solutions Focus practice, as well as plenty of time to consider projects, questions and issues raised by members on the day.
FULL membership of SFCT is open to members whose work has been reviewed by experienced peers. Your project from the Solutions Focus Professional course can form the basis for such a review. Indeed, this is probably the easiest way to gain Full Member status. Call us for more information.
I am a therapist looking for training in Solution Focused Brief Therapy? Is this programme for me?
This programme is for managers and organisational consultants, coaches and facilitators.
Can I use the SF Professional programme to become an acceditated SF practitioner?
The professional body for SF coaches, consultants and managers is SFCT. Full membership of SFCT is gained by submitting a piece of work for review by an experienced international peer group. We can and will help you in preparation for this review, if this is what you wish.
